Let me have the attention of the vegans for a moment. The rest of you go imagine happy cows in a field or work on your 'why I eat meat' arguments. Basilico sell vegan pizzas in addition to the non-vegan pizzas and you wanna know something? Their vegan pizzas are gorgeous. For a long while I thought their vegan margherita was the only option for greedy plant-eaters like me but I was thrilled to recently discover the roast vegetable with vegan cheese variety. The vegan pizzas are available in three sizes, including the delightful 18inch masterpiece. Don't wanna burn my bridges and make enemies with other pizza establishments, but this is maybe the finest vegan pizza in London. I would give all the stars if they had vegan sides like garlic bread, because I am desperate to eat as much as I can.

Any where that does 18" proper wood-fired pizzas is an instant winner in most books. Basilico backs this audaciousness up, too. My (extensively gluttonous) experience with two of the outlets, Fulham and Islington, has seen swift delivery times and brilliantly-finished Neapolitan pizzas every time. Toppings range from the standard to the interesting - nduja, speck, both fior de latte AND buffula mozarella, truffle oil and prosciutto cotto to name but a few, as well as several white (non-tomato based) pizzas. The finish from the extreme heat of the wood oven is the difference-maker - these babies are up there with the pizzas rolling out of the very best ovens across London: Santa Maria, Franco Manca, Homeslice et al. Add to that ice creams by KERB darlings Sorbitium Ices (sensibly replacing Oddono's), fresh juices, some relatively interesting-looking salads and a brief but well-selected wine list (prosecco, two red, two white and one rose all of which £10-£13 a bottle) and you have a runaway takeaway hit. You can probably tell I like the place with a capital 'L' - if you live near one, give it a go and your view of what can be delivered to your door will likely change if not already convinced. "Va' fa Napoli!" indeed...

Great, big slices, and quick delivery. When I was staying in Chelsea, they were always on time and the pizza always seemed fresh. From my experience, the pizza with mozzarella, fresh tomato, basil, olives prosciutto cotto ham, mushrooms, artichokes and anchovies! ( Note* I'm not eating meat, so I pull that stuff off, but for those that are eating meat, I leave it on for them. I'm so thoughtful like that.) Not a NY or L.A. OR Chicago kind of pizza, but tops for London. Not sure if all the slices are thin crusted, but I ordered it n' it was. Better that way anyway, all those toppings stuff you quickly.

My favourite takeaway ever is the seafood pizza from Basilico!!! It is a very good portion and also tasty. They select fresh ingredients and the dough is not too thick - even in Italy you would not have it better! Now, I never had a home delivery but always walked there - it is not a long wait and there is a bar you can sit at. There are several scooters ready outside to deliver orders and you see the delivery boys running in and out. The only reason why I hesitate going there is because the prices are as high as when eating out. Its a contradict in itself, London's takeaway or groceries come to the same price then eating out anyway.
